Postdoc (all genders), Nuclear Spectroscopy Department Ref. No.: 21.104-1270

GSI Helmholtzzentrum for Schwerionenforschung

October 10, 2021

GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. In the next few years, the new FAIR ( F acility for A ntiproton and I on R esearch) one of the world's largest research projects, will be built in international cooperation. GSI and FAIR offer the opportunity to work together in this international environment with a team of employees committed to ensure each day to conduct world-class science.

We invite applications for the postdoctoral researcher position in experimental nuclear physics within the nuclear spectroscopy department:

Postdoc (all genders)

Posting-ID: 21.104-1270

The successful candidate will join the ERC funded LISA project. "Lifetime measurements with Solid Active targets" is a novel approach to study collective excitations in atomic nuclei. Active targets enhance the sensitivity and resolution for in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy experiments enabling lifetime measurements of exotic rare isotopes.

The successful candidate:

  • will work on the design, development, and testing of the LISA active target setup
  • is expected participate in the ongoing experimental program of the group and contribute to the supervision of students
  • is encouraged to pursue independent research initiatives in nuclear structure physics.
  • Your Qualification:

  • a PhD in nuclear physics or a related field
  • experience with the use of gamma-ray and charged particle detectors and the required electronics and data acquisition systems for nuclear physics experiments
  • experience with the C++, the analysis framework ROOT, and the simulation toolkit GEANT4 is desirable.
