Offer Description

Injectable polymers sensitive to temperature changes are particularly well adapted for applications in tissue engineering due to their injectability at room temperature, allowing a mini-invasive treatment and in situ sol-gel transition at physiological temperature, enabling a rapid gel formation after injection. Although hydrogels based on natural or synthetic polymers already exist, injectable, thermoresponsive and biologically active hydrogels are still highly required. In this context, in the frame of national ANR grant “Smarties” (ANR-22-CE52-0005-01), the main objective is to develop a new thermosensitive and injectable hydrogel based on marine bacterial exopolysaccharide (EPS) endowed with biological properties able to repair an osteochondral defect. In this context, the candidate will work to covalently graft a termoresponsive polymer onto the EPS chains, before to fully characterize the gelling properties of the obtained hydrogels by determining their injectability, mechanical properties and relaxation times. The structure-mechanical properties relationship of hydrogels will be also investigated by microscopies (SEM, AFM).

The candidate should : - functionalize EPS with a thermo-sensistive polymer by covalent grafting - characterize the chemical grafting - elaborate hydrogels from the functionalized EPS - characterize the structural and mechanical properties of hydrogels (SEM, rheology, AFM)

The candidate will join the "Physique des Matériaux et des Nanostructures (PMN)" team at the Institute of materials of Nantes Jean Rouxel (https: // www. cnrs-imn.fr/).
