A post-doctoral research position is now open in the Hartkoorn Lab aimed at
rationally optimizing a combination therapy for a novel class of anti-
tuberculosis molecules. The Hartkoorn lab is located at the Institut Pasteur

Current multi-drug combination therapy for the treatment of tuberculosis
remains lengthy and is threatened by substantial prevalence of multidrug and
extensively drug resistant tuberculosis. Recent advances in tuberculosis drug
development have defined novel promising drug combination (BPaL, combination
of Bedaquiline, Pretomanid and Linezolid), though unavoidable resistance to
the BPaL antibiotics is already emerging. It therefore remains important that
novel anti-tuberculosis molecules are discovered and developed into next
generation combinations. In this context, a novel class of potent anti-
tuberculosis molecules (named TriSLa) has been developed that act on a new
protein target of the bacterial electron transport chain. This work was done
in collaboration with the team of medicinal chemists (Pr Nicolas Willand and
Dr Baptiste Villemagne) from the Deprez Lab. In light of these promising
data, the aim of this project is to rationally define the therapeutic
potential of these TriSla molecules and optimise they efficacy in a
combination therapy for the treatment of Mtb infections.
Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant biology field (molecular biology,
pharmacology, pharmacy, microbiology etc). Applicants must have experience
working with M. tuberculosis, preferably in the context of drug discovery.
Experience in metabolomics, protein purification and biochemistry is a major
bonus. The candidate will need to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and
communicate effectively in English or French with excellent written English.
