The Institute of Solid State Physics, light & matter Group of Prof. Dr. Ilja Gerhardt, invites applications for the position of a Post Doctoral Researcher (m/f/d) in Quantum Sensing & Magnetometry (Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 100 %) starting as soon as possible. The position is limited to 3 years.

The light & matter group in Hannover deals with high brightness single photon sources, atomic vapors, and quantum optics. These tools are used for fundamental Science, precision sensing and microscopy. This allows for novel concepts in nano-science and spectroscopy. We combine fundamental research with quantum technologies.

Your tasks

  • Setup of an atomic magnetometer which detects land mines and unexploded bombs
  • Implementation of an experimental setup, which works on a drone
  • Organizing glass blown vapor cells, lab work and supporting flight experiments
  • Organizational work for the entire project
  • Participation in teaching activities
  • Your profile

  • Completed university science degree in engineering, physics or a related field
  • A relevant finished PhD degree is expected
  • Extraordinary motivation and the will to dive into a variety of interdisciplinary topics
  • Eager to learn new things and apply critical thought to electronics, programming and quite some engineering
  • (Ideally) Experience in atomic magnetometry, electronics, programming and measurement techniques
