Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
AIMES - Center for the Advancement of Integrated Medical and Engineering
Sciences is an interdisciplinary research center co-affiliated between
Karolinska Institutet (KI) and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology
(KTH). Research at AIMES is characterized by intimate interactions between
pre-clinical and clinical scientists and researchers with natural sciences and
engineering backgrounds. Biomedical research in infection and neuroscience is
addressed by the development of cutting-edge approaches based on Organic
Bioelectronics, Organ-on-Chip technology, and Tissue Microbiology, which
combines expertise in electroactive polymers, chemistry, microfluidics,
neurobiology, microbiology, physiology, pathology and intravital imaging.
Other areas of research include renewable biomaterials, sensor technologies
and anti-fouling surfaces. AIMES has an explicit aim to translate scientific
findings to societal use via strong interactions with external stakeholders.
AIMES is located in Biomedicum, KI Campus Solna. AIMES is hosted at KI by the
Department of Neuroscience, world-leaders in research on the function of the
nervous system in health and disease. AIMES host at KTH is the Department of
Fibre and Polymer Technology, the largest academic institution on native and
synthetic polymers in Sweden.
Team Melican, is a research team within AIMES who focusses on using cutting-
edge tissue and animal models to study Bacterial Pathogenesis. The team has
expertise in numerous different bacterial pathogens and tissue models, with
recent work on humanized animal models for bacterial skin colonization
(Schulz et al, Cell Reports, 2019)
Team Melican is seeking a Post-Doctoral Researcher in the field of
Bacterial Pathogenesis, with a focus on using and developing tissue models to
study bacterial skin infection and colonization. The project will use human
skin tissue models to study the molecular pathogenesis of skin pathogens and
commensals, primarily Staphylococcus sp.
The candidate will be driving their own projects within a multidisciplinary
Fixed time position for 1+1 years.
An individual who has obtained a PhD in Microbiology or equivalent research
expertise is qualified for appointment for this Postdoctoral position.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate
or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a
doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that
all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date
of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor,
director or equivalent.
The applicant must meet the following requirements:
Research expertise in Microbiology, preferably Bacteriology and Bacterial
Pathogenesis, as evidenced by research publications in peer-reviewed journals
or prior positions.
Documented expertise on Microbiological Techniques BSL2 working practices
Tissue and cell staining methods
Excellent spoken and written English is a requirement. Ability to work within
a collaborative team with different expertise.
Experience with Staphylococcus sp. Experience with animal models and
qualifications for animal work. Knowledge in different microscopy techniques.
Experience obtaining research funding. Teaching experience.
