About the Animal Sciences Department – The Animal Sciences department at Colorado State University is a key department in the College of Agricultural Sciences. The Department of Animal Sciences is responsible for educating approximately 850 undergraduate and 50 graduate students at any given time. Research, teaching, and engagement opportunities for this position occur at the Animal Sciences building on the main college campus and at the Agricultural Research Development & Education Center (ARDEC Fort Collins).

Position Summary

A Postdoctoral Researcher position is available at Colorado State University in the Department of Animal Sciences beginning in Summer or Fall 2023 with Drs. Lily Edwards-Callaway, Catie Cramer, and Noa Roman-Muniz. The successful candidate will lead and participate in projects focusing on improving end-of- life decision-making for dairy cows and calves in the United States across the entire dairy supply chain.

The successful candidate will also be able to contribute to other ongoing projects of interest, and build their teaching, mentoring, and grant writing portfolios. This position includes salary and benefits for up to 2 years. Travel is expected for data collection.

Required Job Qualifications

  • PhD in Animal Science or related field prior to the start date
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team
  • Experience with data collection and analysis, familiarity with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and a statistical software package
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a driver's license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to start work in the United States by preferred start date. Department will not sponsor visa for this position.

  • Experience with qualitative data analysis

  • A component of this project will be focused on engaging with supply chain stakeholders and facilitating two workshops to share results of the research.
  • The candidate will be responsible for participating in workshop planning, execution, and facilitation.
  • The candidate will present information at these workshops, lead breakout groups, and help summarize workshop outcomes after completion.
  • Additionally, the candidate will provide leadership to graduate and undergraduate students working in the lab group.

  • The candidate will lead the research data collection and analysis.
  • This will include conducting interviews and administering surveys to individuals within the dairy supply chain (e.g., dairy caretakers, veterinarians, plant employees).
  • They will be involved in the development of data protocols, data collection, statistical analysis, presentation of results, and publication of research articles.
