Expectations of Academics
ARU is a global university transforming lives through innovative, inclusive
and entrepreneurial education and research. We are ranked in the world's top
350 HEIs in the 2021 Times Higher Education World University Rankings and in
the top ten mainstream universities in the country for the proportion of UK
undergraduates in employment 15 months after graduating. We have campuses in
Cambridge, Chelmsford, London and Peterborough with around 2,500 staff and
35,000 students from 180 countries. With a focussed civic mission, we are
committed to working with others through education, research and knowledge
exchange to enhance the economic, cultural and social wellbeing of the
communities in which we work and live.
About the Role:
We are offering a 2-year fixed-term post-doctoral research fellowship to work
on our current lab research in developing nano-enabled drug carriers to
overcome the pan-chemoresistance of cancer stem(-like) cells. We have
identified and synthesised several novel compounds that might have anticancer
activity. All have shown anticancer activities and at least two have a great
potential for commercialisation. The main breakthrough in this research is
that these compounds are safe, non-toxic, have potent anticancer activities
that reverse pan-chemoresistance (i.e., stronger than some established toxic
drugs) and are feasible to synthesise and produce at a large scale compared
to already licenced anti-cancer drugs.
With a degree and PhD or nearing completion or other post-graduate research
qualification, ideally in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Science, Pharmaceutical
Chemistry or a related area, you would be responsible for research to develop
these novel anticancer compounds and conduct cancer molecular biology studies
to establish the mechanism of action for these compounds and explore potential
synergies with traditional anticancer studies. Additionally, you will employ
formulation science to offer final product solutions for potential in-vivo
studies and clinical trials.
