Eastern Michigan University's GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology's (GACET) Postdoctoral Research Engineers will support/ lead our research efforts in the areas of autonomous vehicles and vehicle cybersecurity. They will serve as liaisons with other technology companies working to transform today's mobility landscape.
The first position will help conduct research activities that can be used in the development of autonomous navigation of complex downtown scenarios and transporting hundreds of people within urban settings.
The second position will focus on the cybersecurity of vehicles. These positions will facilitate GACET's work with other companies and the American Center for Mobility as well as EMU faculty to develop research programs around safe driverless technologies that give people more time to enjoy with friends, to solve problems, or conduct other business.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Position 1 in Autonomous Vehicles
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Work independently with cross-functional teams to develop research activities in hardware, software, and systems engineering. Teams will include students, staff, faculty members and other professionals from industry. This person will deliver research artifacts that can be used in the development of autonomous systems and their cybersecurity.
Collaborate with students and professors affiliated with EMU in engineering or closely related fields in a university setting to support/lead projects.
Help deliver senior projects, research projects, and consultation with organizations related to autonomous vehicles.
Utilize Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Systems Engineering principles to research problems and provide solutions that arise in the area of autonomous vehicles.
Utilize basic knowledge of software development principles including use of tools such as Java, REST, XML, and C++ to provide technical guidance to Technical Support Team on issue diagnosis and resolution.
Position 2 in Vehicle Cybersecurity
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Work independently and as a team member with cross-functional teams to work on projects that involve cutting-edge topics in vehicle cybersecurity. The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with scholars in Mobility & Autonomy Cybersecurity at the GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology.
Support/lead multiple projects that are centered around vehicle cybersecurity including methodologies, strategies, technical implementations, development, testing, and reporting.
Lead/contribute to submitting proposals to seek funding for continuous support of these projects by working with other faculty and staff.
Help deliver senior projects, research projects, and consultation with organizations related to vehicle cybersecurity. Work with other staff/faculty to disseminate knowledge gained through publications in established journals or conference proceedings in the area of vehicle cybersecurity
Qualifications
Position 1 in Autonomous Vehicles
Qualifications
Doctorate in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, cybersecurity and/or Computer Science required.
Strong technical skills in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, and systems engineering are required.
Knowledge of state-of-the-art tools, equipment (motors, motor controllers, and PID controls) and sensors (LiDAR and RADAR preferred) is required.
Familiarity with state-of-the-art models for autonomous vehicles required.
Software integration and development experience required.
Systems engineering experience required. Work with other staff/faculty to disseminate knowledge gained through publications in established journals or conference proceedings in the area of autonomous vehicles Experience with autonomous driving is preferred. Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
Position 2 in Vehicle Cybersecurity
Qualifications:
Doctorate in Cybersecurity, Computer Science or closely related field that is focused on the domain of vehicle/mobility cybersecurity or a related field
Familiarity and technical knowledge and/or experience that is relevant to this domain
The candidate is expected to have knowledge and/or demonstrated experience in the offensive and defensive security of two or more of the following areas: Internal vehicle networks, Modern Connected & Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) components, Wireless channels, Hardware and software, Protocols and services and/or Vehicle related ecosystem
Experience in experimental research methods, including concept and implementation
Understanding of the legal and compliance areas surrounding vehicle cybersecurity
Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
