Chemical biology, organic chemistry, and enzymology for the chemoenzymatic
synthesis of glycans and glycomimetics for drug discovery. Structural
characterization of complex oligosaccharides by spectroscopic methods.
Bioconjugation for compounds modification. Top-level research on the
chemoenzymatic synthesis of glycomimetics for drug discovery employing a
combination of chemical and enzymatic approaches.

Binding studies by ELISA, SPR and BLI to evaluate potency of glycomimetics.

Development of cell-based assays to examine glycomimetics.

Assist in management and coordination of an organic chemistry laboratory.
Responsible for maintenance and repair of instrumentation, chemical
management, laboratory documents; Responsible for the ordering of laboratory
supplies and chemicals. Responsible for teaching new graduate students about
specific safety issues and making sure that the PI's synthetic labs are up to
par with all the safety regulations.

The position will entail performing a research program dealing with the
preparation and biological evaluation of complex glycan and glycomimetics.
Purification of intermediates, NMR and MS will be extensively used for
compound characterization. Various assays will be employed to examine for
biological activity using in vitro assays. Support will be provided to
management and coordination of an organic chemistry laboratory.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position
Ph.D. degree in chemistry or chemical biology with extensive experience in
complex glycan chemistry and biochemistry including an ability to identify
target compounds of biological importance, device synthetic routes for such
compounds, and employ chemoenzymatic syntheses to obtain glycan and
glycomimetics. Extensive experience with various spectroscopic technologies
including NMR for compounds characterization is essential. Experience with
LC/MS and binding assays.
