The Post Doctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) post is a 2 year fixed term
contract to assist Professor M. McKeown and Dr J. Manley in the NIHR funded
project ‘Interventions to maximise the potential of place in building
community, reducing health inequalities, and improving health'. The post
holder will be responsible for carrying out the qualitative research aspects
of the project, with particular emphasis on the community wealth building
project known as the ‘Preston Model'. The PDRA will be based in the centre for
Citizenship and Community in the School of Social Work, Care & Community. The
Centre is concerned with research approaches that are co-produced, and with
building research evidence that emphasises the importance of working with
community capacity and assets.
The research includes conducting interviews, focus groups, Participatory
Network Analysis, literature reviews, and data analysis. The post holder will
undertake data collection, analysis and report/paper writing. The successful
candidate will have experience of conducting qualitative research (e.g.
interviews/focus groups). Experience of, or willingness/ability to learn, the
theory and .application of Participatory Network Analysis. Experience in
research related to the Preston Model will be a distinct advantage. The post
holder will have achieved a PhD in Social Policy/Sociology, and preferably a
Masters in research (sociology). Publications in the field, especially
related to the Preston Model, will be valued.
The candidate will demonstrate a significant publication record at post-
doctoral level and the ability to contribute to high quality academic peer-
reviewed journals. S/he will be able to workalike and as part of a team, both
within UCLan and with our partners in Liverpool and Lancaster.
