  • Post-doctoral position available in the Institute of Physical Chemistry PAS within National Science Center (NSC) SONATA BIS 9 Project No. 2019/34/E/ST8/00411 entitled “Printing of self-assembling droplet arrays: from physical mechanisms of self-assembly to applications in cell encapsulation and high-throughput screening” led by dr Jan Guzowski

    The goal of the project is to develop a microfluidic high throughput screening platform based on printing of droplets into ordered arrays at a substrate. The planned research tasks include (i) setting up the droplet-printing setup and investigation of physical mechanisms of droplet self-assembly, (ii) development of custom image-processing tools, (iii) proof-of-concept application of the platform in drug screening.

    We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral candidate with PhD degree in biology, bioengineering, chemistry or related fields with the experience in cell culture and tissue engineering and knowledge of basic techniques and protocols used in bio-labs.

    Responsibilities:

  • Optimizing hydrogel for cell culture, culturing cells, planning and performing the microfluidic encapsulation and screening experiments involving live/dead staining of cells and other assays, microscopy-based morphological characterization of growing microtissues.
  • Data analysis, writing reports and scientific publications
  • Cooperation with researchers, including communication with English- speaking colleagues

  • Eligibility criteria
  • PhD in biological sciences, physics, chemistry or related fields obtained not earlier than 7 years before the engagement in the project project (this period might be longer due to family reasons, according to NCN rules)

  • Experience in cell culture and tissue engineering and knowledge of basic techniques and protocols used in bio-labs

  • Experience in microfluidics will be an asset
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English

  • Specific Requirements

    A post-doc type post is a full-time post, scheduled by the project's principal investigator for a person who has obtained their PhD degree within 7 years before joining the project. This period may be extended by a time of long-term (in excess of 90 days) documented sick leaves or rehabilitation leaves granted on account of being unfit to work. In addition, the period may be extended by the number of months of a child care leave granted pursuant to the Labour Code and in the case of women, by 18 months for every child born or adopted, whichever manner of accounting for career breaks is preferable.
