  • The successful candidate will work in the field of organic synthesis and will be in charge of: - the synthesis of molecular receptors capable of capturing/storing/releasing singlet oxygen under the action of new types of stimuli. - the characterization of the compounds according to classical analytical methods (UV-visible and fluorescence spectroscopies, NMR). - the study of the ability of molecular architectures to release oxygen in a controlled way.

    A 12-month postdoctoral fellowship is available in the CORAIL team (Catalysis, ORganometallic chemistry And synthesIs of Ligands) of the Laboratoire de Chimie Et Interdisciplinarité, Synthèse, Analyse, Modélisation (CEISAM) of Nantes under the supervision of Dr. Vincent Coeffard and Pierrick Nun. The fellowship is funded by the ANR contract "Controlled Delivery of Isotopically Labelled Singlet Oxygen" (DelivrO2).

    In the past decades, singlet oxygen (1O2) – that is the lowest excited state of molecular oxygen – has attracted considerable attention from the scientific community. The electrophilicity and oxidizing power of singlet oxygen have been harnessed in various fields such as photodynamic therapy, materials science, and synthetic chemistry. The most common strategy to produce singlet oxygen lies in the combination of a photosensitizer, light and oxygen (type II photooxygenation). This approach involves triplet-triplet energy transfer between the excited photosensitizer and ground state oxygen. Despite many advantages offered by the photosensitization of oxygen molecules, the limitations inherent to this strategy have prompted the researchers to consider other alternatives. Within this context, the chemical or thermal release of singlet oxygen from endoperoxides is an appealing alternative to photooxygenation. The successful candidate will be involved in the development of new molecular receptors for the controlled delivery of singlet oxygen triggered by other types of stimuli such as supramolecular interactions.

    The candidate will work in the CORAIL team (Catalysis, ORganometallic chemistry And synthesIs of Ligands) of the Laboratoire de Chimie Et Interdisciplinarité, Synthèse, Analyse, Modélisation (CEISAM) of Nantes under the supervision of Dr. Vincent Coeffard and Pierrick Nun. The CEISAM Institute (https: // ceisam.univ-nantes.fr/en/) has a well-established international reputation for innovative research in chemistry. The CEISAM institute is located in a recently constructed building that provides cutting- edge facilities in a modern environment to conduct research.

    Eligibility criteria

    The candidate must fulfil some criteria: - A Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry is required for this position. Knowledge in supramolecular chemistry would be an asset. - Team player on a multidisciplinary project. - Excellent skills in communication and in promoting research work. - Scientific watch on the topic. - Advanced English skills in writing, reading, listening and speaking.
