The Molecular Foundry (MF) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (https: // foundry.lbl.gov/) and Novo Nordisk Quantum Computing Program (NQCP)/Quantum Foundry are collaborating on advancing superconducting and semiconducting quantum computing platforms towards scalable fault-tolerant quantum computing. This position is for a postdoctoral researcher who will perform work at Berkeley on improving qubits and related quantum processor performance with a particular focus on material quality/choice and novel fabrication and packaging development.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform device fabrication, device and materials characterization as well as analysis
  • Develop novel fabrication and characterization methods, e.g. utilizing in- situ characterization and fabrication techniques, advanced chip designs
  • Document and communicate results of work in peer-reviewed-journal publications and in oral presentations, including participation in meetings, conferences, and reviews.
  • Be a link between MF and NQCP to increase collaboration and advancement of the above platforms
  • Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science or a related field
  • Strong experience with fabrication and characterization of e.g. above- mentioned qubit platforms
  • Strong interest in understanding the material science aspects of qubit performance
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with students and postdocs at Berkeley and NQCP
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and multitasking skills.

    This is a full-time, 3-year postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs.

    Terms of employment The employment is at University of Copenhagen, but the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LNBL) will be the research host.

    The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

    Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. Terms and conditions are negotiated with University of Copenhagen.

    Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.

    Appointment will be subject to receipt of a security clearance.
