  • We have an 18-month ANR-funded post-doctoral fellowship available immediately to participate in the development of serial crystallography methods as applied to MOFs and POMs. This is an ANR project lead by the PROXIMA 2 beamline (Synchrotron SOLEIL) in a collaboration with the IMAP (ENS, Paris) and the ILV (University of Versailles Saint Quentin, Versailles). He/she will work at IMAP and on the PROXIMA 2 beamline, and he/she will be under the direct responsibility of the head of IMAP.

    Mission

    The researcher will participate in the development of a structural resolution method based on serial crystallography in collaboration with the PROXIMA 2 beamline (Synchrotron SOLEIL). This post-doctoral position is an 18-month contract in the framework of an ANR project. He/she will be placed under the direct responsibility of the head of IMAP. He/she will work at IMAP and on the PROXIMA 2 beamline.

    Main activities

  • Synthesis and characterization of Metal-Organic Frameworks crystals of controlled size/quality.
  • Development and fabrication of micro-fluidic chips for serial crystallography experiments.
  • Collection of laboratory and large instrument X-ray diffraction data.
  • Solving crystal structures from single crystal diffraction data.
  • Writing of reports and publications.
  • Skills

  • Expertise in synthesis and characterization of Metal-Organic frameworks.
  • Expertise in structural characterization of crystalline solids from single crystal X-ray data.
  • Experience in working on synchrotron diffraction beamlines including ex- or in-situ experiments if possible.
  • Writing of publications and scientific projects.
  • A very good command of English (written, oral) including the writing of scientific papers or reports.
  • Context

    IMAP is a joint CNRS, Ecole Normale Supérieure, Ecole Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles de Paris laboratory created in 2016 within the PSL University. It comprises 10 permanent staff (1 CNRS Research Director, 1 Professor, 2 CNRS researchers, 2 Senior Lecturers, 2 Research Engineers, 1 Assistant Engineer, 1 administrative and financial management technician) as well as around thirty students or post-doctoral fellows. Its research activities are focused on the synthesis of functional porous solids for applications ranging from health, to environment and energy. IMAP has recognized expertise in the advanced characterization of crystallized porous solids. An X-ray diffraction platform is available in the laboratory, including an apparatus equipped for structural analysis by the Pair Distribution Function (PDF). IMAP has established new collaborations on electron diffraction from nanocrystals (C2N, Saclay) and serial crystallography (PROXIMA 2, Synchrotron SOLEIL), a project on which the researcher will be involved. PROXIMA 2 is a high brilliance beamline dedicated to micro-crystallography. The beamline is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation (detectors, goniometer, robot, etc…), and it hosts a large number of users in biological and chemical crystallography. The beamline team consists of 4 permanent staff (3 scientists and 1 technician).

  • PhD in chemistry or materials science or equivalent.
  • Desirable training and professional experience

  • Thesis and/or post-doctoral work and/or equivalent experience in a research laboratory on the synthesis/characterization of crystalline materials.
  • Experience in structural resolution by X-ray diffraction (single crystal and/or powder).
  • Experience in the design, fabrication and exploitation of micro-fluidic chips is strongly desired.

He/she will work at two different sites: IMAP (ENS, Paris, France) and on the PROXIMA 2 beamline (SOLEIL, Gif-sur- Yvette, France).
