Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Center for Environmental Engineering (CEEE) has an opening for a post-
doctoral position focusing on modeling thermodynamic behaviors, heat and mass
transfer applied to HVAC systems and buildings. The successful candidate will
join a team to develop cutting-edge scientific computing codes and analytical
projects to research, develop, and evaluate energy efficiency on both basic
and advanced HVAC systems. The successful candidate should have a strong
background and understanding of heat and mass transfer, Heating Ventilation,
Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (HVAC&R) systems, including theory,
numerical modeling, and experiments.
Under the general direction of senior faculty, the successful candidate will:
•Develop, Improve, Build and Release in-house numerical modeling tools for
heat exchangers and other thermal and HVAC&R components,
•Develop, design, and analyze heat and mass transfer processes and components.
•Publish papers in heat and mass transfer and energy journals.
•Research Project Management: proposal writing, analysis in support of new
proposals, liaison with collaborators and sponsoring organizations, organize
review meetings, prepare and deliver progress reviews/presentations.
•Mentor and support graduate students
Must be a recent PhD graduate
Additional Required Qualifications
Strong academic and research record in relevant heat transfer,
thermodynamics, or mass transfer field with emphasis on both modeling and
Mechanical engineering, or relevant dissertation research in other
engineering or science field.
Experience programming in Engineering Equation Solver (EES), Matlab,
Python, or similar tools.
Experience programming in C/C++/C#
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work independently
Demonstrated experience in some or all the following:
Numerical modeling techniques and computer programming
Heat and mass transfer fundamentals
Transient and steady-state simulation
Thermal storage materials or components
HVAC fundamentals or refrigeration cycles (vapor compression and non-vapor compression)
Laboratory experiments and data acquisition systems
Programming / Professional Certifications, e.g., Microsoft, MathWorks,
SCRUM, A-PMP, etc.
Experience with solid modeling tools, design for additive-manufacturing
