Coordination of the preparation of an exhibition at the Musée d'Aquitaine, Bordeaux. Coordination of the exhibition catalogue. The person recruited will be responsible for helping to prepare the exhibition of the ERC GESHAEM project by participating in the coordination of the exhibition and the catalogue. The exhibition From Alexander the Great to Cleopatra. Egypt of the Ptolemies, a Greco-Egyptian State (323-30 BC) aims to show the encounter between Greeks and Egyptians by displaying ancient monuments and papyri, material witnesses of exchanges, borrowings and appropriations between these two cultures. To this end, the exhibition will present for the first time a set of papyri and mummy cartoons found during excavations in the Fayum oasis and preserved at the Institut de Papyrologie de la Sorbonne, as well as numerous works borrowed from several major French Egyptological collections. In addition to these loans, there will be a group of previously unseen pieces not usually presented to the public, kept in the reserves of the Musée d'Aquitaine. The exhibition is scheduled to run from 15 May to 15 January 2025.

The objective of the ERC StG GESHAEM project n° 758907 is to study papyri dated to the 3rd century BC and currently kept in the Jouguet collection of the Institut de papyrologie de Paris-Sorbonne. Discovered in the necropolises of the Fayum, these papyri had been used to make mummy decorations called "cartonnages" which have, for the most part, been dismantled and have never been studied for themselves. About twenty cartonnages are nevertheless still preserved, and fragments of decorations are still visible on some other incompletely dismantled cartonnages. The GESHAEM project aims to offer the first stylistic study of these mummy decorations, which predate the famous "Fayum portraits", by comparing the Sorbonne's material with similar material from other Egyptian necropolises, and to study the administrative archives from which the papyri originated. The exhibition aims to show the results obtained within the project. The work will be carried out in Bordeaux, with missions to the Institut de Papyrologie in Paris to examine the objects and elsewhere as required.
