  • - Use a transmission electron microscope equipped with a corrected electronic probe. - Develop methodologies for in-situ monitoring by environmental transmission electron microscopy, in gas or liquid environment, of the porous materials. - Apply these methodologies to the in-situ study of the formation of pores in nanostructured alumina, by the aggregation of crystallites and the agglomeration of aggregates, and in mesoporous zeolites submitted to thermal and chemical treatments. - Exploit data obtained by electron microscopy in the in situ and operando modes. - Write scientific articles based on the results obtained and present the results at conferences. - Participate in other scientific projects of the CARMEN laboratory - Participate in the supervision of PhD students and trainees of the team.

    The determination of the structural and textural properties of porous materials is essential for the optimization of their properties. These structural and morphological characteristics are transmitted through the processes of synthesis, shaping and post-synthetic modifications. Understanding these processes requires the in-situ monitoring of the studied systems by electron microscopy under conditions similar to those used in the synthesis and post-processing steps, but such an experimental implementation remains a challenge. The research project aims to develop methodologies for in-situ monitoring by environmental electron microscopy of the evolution of porous materials during their synthesis or post-synthesis transformations.

    The post-doc (M/F) will belong to the electronic microscopy team of the Surfaces and Interfaces department of the IPCMS and will use the equipment of the corresponding electronic microscopy platform. The team currently consists of a professor, three engineers and five doctoral students. This work is part of the research activities of the CARMEN joint research laboratory and will take place at the IPCMS in Strasbourg with a few stays at IFPEN (Lyon). Once developed, the methodology will then be applied to the other systems studied in the four theses currently underway in the joint laboratory, for which in- situ studies represent the transversal subject between its various scientific axes. He/she will also be able to develop other research topics around the use of electron microscopy to determine the equilibrium and dynamical structural properties of nanomaterials and nanostructures.

    Eligibility criteria

    - Strong expertise in the use of electron microscopy in material science. - Know-how in the use of environmental modes, in gas or liquid media. - Know-how in the use of other modes based on electron microscopy: EDX spectroscopy and electron diffraction. - Knowledge in materials sciences and nanosciences, structural and chemical properties of condensed matter. - Notions of heterogeneous catalysis.
