  • This 12-month position is associated to the ANR project “2D Heterostructures for Energy Conversion”. The candidate will work within the ITODYS Lab in collaboration with MPQ Lab from University of Paris, France.

    "2D Heterostructures for Energy Conversion"

    Recovery of wasted heat is a major societal concern in this century focusing important research efforts. Research on new thermoelectric (TE) devices and materials to improve energy conversion is highly demanded in particular in nanoelectronics applications.

    One of the most promising way to improve energy conversion efficiency is the use of 2D materials such as graphene or transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs). The project aims to develop new-engineered devices, opening the route to van der Waals heterostructures based thermoelectricity. The objectives cover different technical and scientific challenges and especially exploring different approaches to engineer the thermal and electrical conductivities of such materials.

    In the framework of this collaborative project between NEC group (ITODYS Lab) and TELEM group (MPQ Lab), we are looking for a highly motivated post- doc who will be in charge of designing and conduct chemical and electrochemical modification experiments. The future postdoc will work on two major topics: the functionalisation of 2D materials and the characterisation of the modified materials by several technics (AFM, STM, XPS/UPS, and electrochemistry). He/she will work alongside multidisciplinary teams of chemists, physicists to carry out experiments in order to control the experimental parameters in tight connection with electrical measurements done in Telem Group. The project will benefit from access to the instrumentation of the ITODYS and MPQ lab.

    Essential requirements :

    - Holding a PhD in experimental chemical physics involving an experience in electrochemical study.

    - A strong background in electrochemistry.

    - Skills in Chemical or physical Engineering, (designing or fabricating tools for nanoscale experiments) and surface characterisation (AFM, SEM, XPS, etc)

    - Strong motivation to perform in a multidisciplinary environment, autonomy, ability to work in a team, ability to write up experimental data to publication standard, effective verbal communication skills in English (or in French).

    The following are desirable but not mandatory requirements:

    - Experience in clean room facilities

    - Background in organic chemistry

    - Knowledge in Nanoscience and electrical transport
