The Notre Dame Police Department is a full-service police department recognized by the State of Indiana with the authority to enforce Indiana State Laws, make arrests, and conduct criminal investigations. The Campus is comparable to a small town, and those we serve come from all over the United States and throughout the world. Duties of a Police Officer at the University of Notre Dame include responsibility for the prevention, detection, and investigation of criminal activity, as well as violations of the University rules of conduct. This will involve completing reports, processing crime scenes, collecting evidence, providing traffic and parking enforcement, testifying in court and at University proceedings, promoting a safe and orderly environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors alike, protecting dignitaries, providing security at sporting and other events, and completing training as directed by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board, the University Administration, and the Chief of Police or his/her designee.

This position will be on either the Evening Shift (3pm – 1am) or the Night Shift (8pm – 6am). Officers work a 10 hour shift. Side 1 shift works 2 days on, 1 day off, 4 days on, 2 days off, 2 days on, 3 days off, then the cycle repeats. Side 2 shift works 2 days off, 2 days on, 3 days off, 2 days on, 1 day off, 4 days on, then the cycle repeats. Officers working either shift have every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off in their rotation.
