Job Summary The Physical Training Instructor conducts physical training with the basic law enforcement cadets. The training ranges includes the three major components of physical fitness; cardiovascular, muscular endurance, and flexibility. This training requirement is set forth by the Mississippi Board of Law Enforcement Office of Standards and Training (MSBLEOST). The Physical Training Instructor ensures training maintains compliance with all MSBLEOST guidelines.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises, provides mentorship, and directs mentor activities and special activities in an overnight setting for basic class cadets entering the law enforcement career field
  • Reviews all student applications and identifying medical or preexisting injuries that will affect the students' medical condition or limit their ability to train
  • Develops a training program which will increase in intensity yet minimize injuries as the class' physical stamina increases
  • Leads, instructs, and motivates basic class cadets in physical training exercises, including cardiovascular exercise, strength training, and stretching, to include warm up and cool down training, to prevent injuries and improve performance
  • Conducts and scores physical fitness tests in accordance with MSBLEOST policy
  • Prepares written documentation on the performance of students and any injuries which may occur
  • Provides the Director with daily status updates in the PT log book
  • Maintain and service training equipment and resupply training aids in support of training
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Must be a certified law enforcement officer within last 5 years. Minimum of 3 years certified physical training experience.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    Functional knowledge of law enforcement firearms, tactics, physical training, and defensive tactics

    Preferred Qualifications

    Instructor experience in at least 2 of the following skills: law enforcement driving, defensive tactics, impact weapons, OC spray, firearms, Taser, CPR/1st Aid, drill and ceremony
