Job description

The “Decentralized Systems and Network Services” (DSN) group, headed by Prof. Dr. Hannes Hartenstein, does research in the field of distributed and decentralized systems. Current focus areas are security and dependability of broadcast- and consensus methods, blockchain technology, decentralized messaging, decentralized identity and access management as well as decentralized privacy-aware computation (see dsn.kastel.kit.edu).

For various application-driven research activities in the fields of automotive software management, assistive humanoid robotics, and mobility-as-a-service systems we have several openings for PhD students/research assistants who are interested in research that connects theory to practice. The research activities focus on design and analysis of decentralized methods for identity and access management, payments, as well as for secure and privacy-preserving data sharing.

Starting date

in first quarter of 2023

Personal qualification
  • M.Sc. in Computer Science or related discipline
  • ground in cybersecurity and distributed systems
  • Interest in one of the following application domains: automotive software management, assistive humanoid robotics, mobility-as-a-service
  • Professional command of English
  • Very good analytical skills
  • Highly motivated, keen on doing scientific research and pursuing a doctoral degree
  • Proactive and creative work style
  • Salary

    Salary category 13, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.

    Contract duration

    limited for 3 years, extension is possible
