PhD student (m/f/d) in Livestock Biotechnology within the Collaborative

Research Centre (CRC) 1371

11.01.2023, Wissenschaftliches Personal

In this PhD project (P06), we study the interaction of several compartments (e.g. skin and colon) and effects of the microbiome for alpha- Gal allergy development (red meat allergy). We already established protocols for sensitization and anaphylactic responses of alpha-Gal deficient pigs. Our next aim is to establish germ-free (gnotobiotic) pig models to evaluate the influence of microbial consortia on sensitization and allergy development. We plan to perform fecal microbial transfers and further apply cutting-edge microbiota and metabolite profiling methodologies to identify protective microorganisms and molecules. The perspective of this project is to fundamentally understand underlying immune cell mechanisms and to implement a microbiome-based approach to inhibit allergy development.
