At the School of Health, Care and Social Welfare our students are studying to be for example behavioural scientists, public health scientists, physiotherapists, nurses, social workers and specialist nurses. Here we have the research specialisation of Health and Welfare. Our work takes place in cooperation with and in strategic agreements with county councils, municipalities and companies in the region.

Position descriptionThis employment refers to a PhD position. The employment is temporary - equivalent to full-time studies for four years - with the goal of completing a PhD in work life science. In case of 20% teaching and administration in the division, the employment is limited to five years. The PhD studies in health and welfare is in English, which means that all courses, seminars etc. are conducted in English. Salary is applied according to the PhD salary ladder. The project is planned to start during the spring 2024.
The PhD position is linked to the division of Sociology at the School of Health, Care and Social Welfare and more specifically to the, by FORTE (Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare) funded, six-year program "Workplace structure and work-related ill-health: female dominance, organizational factors, initiatives and political decisions in municipal administration”. The purpose of the program is to address sickness absence in the female-dominated municipal sector. This is examined by mapping ill-health in occupations and workplaces and by exploring the efforts of organizations to address the root causes of work-related ill-health.
The program consists of five projects. The PhD position is primarily connected to one of these projects where longitudinal annual register data will be used to investigate the connection between female-dominated occupations, female- dominated workplaces, and sickness absence in the municipal sector and how different factors influence these connections.
QualificationsOnly those who are or have been admitted to third-cycle courses and study programmes at a higher education may be appointed to doctoral studentships. For futher information see Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 1993:100).
