  • Subjects Computational and Theoretical Chemistry Description The Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry in Halle (Saale), a research institute of the Leibniz Association, welcome applications for PhD candidates who intend to apply for DAAD scholarship for computational scientists (chemists, biologists, physicists, chemo and bioinformaticians).

    We are offering a three-year position for a

    PhD student (m/f/d) in Computational and Theoretical Chemistry for application for DAAD Scholarship

    at the Department of Bioorganic Chemistry within the research group “Computational Chemistry”.

    We are looking for a creative, curious, team-minded and enthusiastic candidate to join our team to contribute to a project which will focus on the application of QM/MM and Moleular dynamics simulation methods for understand and design of enzymes. The work will be performed in close collaboration with experimental collaborators, who will work on enzymology and protein engineering.

    The successful candidate must hold a Diploma or Master's degree in computational (bio)chemistry or biophysics, or a closely related field and is supposed to have a solid command of English communications skills. Applicants should have a strong background in one of the following fields: programming language (Python, C/C++), QM, molecular dynamics or QM/MM methods, computational biochemistry or biophysics. Prior experience with protein engineering would be advantageous but not a prerequisite.

    The IPB is an international research institute located on the Weinberg-Campus of the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg and provides state-of-the-art facilities for research in plant biochemistry/proteomics, cell biology/imaging, and natural products chemistry/metabolomics. The Department of Bioorganic Chemistry offers a multinational, interdisciplinary, and highly stimulating scientific environment.     Location: Halle is a beautiful small city (240.000 inhabitants) one hour away from Berlin and 30 min from Leipzig. Due to the central location in Germany and excellent connection to the high-speed train network, you are very quickly in most areas of Germany (Frank-furt 3 hours, Hamburg 3.5 hours, Munich 3 hours) and due to the airport (Halle/Leipzig) in Europe.
