  • Subjects Material Science / Physical Chemistry Description The Department of Colloids Chemistry (Director Prof. Dr. M. Antonietti) at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in Potsdam, Germany invites applications from outstanding young scientists for the position of PhD student (m/f/d).

    We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student in the field of materials science who is passionate about both physical chemistry and nanoscale characterization of materials. The candidate should have a degree in Chemistry/Materials Science/Physics or closely related fields, with a strong background and interests in transmission electron microscopy and/or spectroscopy techniques.

    The PhD student will study fundamental aspects of the formation, transformation and self-organization of different carbon-based materials and colloidal systems applying advanced scanning transmission electron microscopy techniques both ex-situ and under external stimuli (e.g. temperature, electric current, etc.). The main goal is to study the chemistry and local structure transformations at the atomic scale and to give nanoscale insight on the physical properties of studied materials.

    The position is available from March 2022 with the flexible starting date in 2022.
