Job Code: 10-23

Job Offer from January 24, 2023

The Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences is a leading international research institute of exceptional scientific breadth. With more than 40 research groups and some 1,000 employees from over 50 nations, it is the largest institute of the Max Planck Society.

The research group Bioanalytical Mass Spectrometry (Prof. Dr. Henning Urlaub) invites applications for a position as

PhD student (f/m/d)

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student, preferably with skills in protein, RNA and/or DNA chemistry, mass spectrometry (MS) and computational data evaluation and annotation, and who is interested in using state-of-the- art mass spectrometry for the study of protein–RNA/DNA interactions in cells.

The project is in line with the long-standing record of research within the Bioanalytical Mass Spectrometry group in the investigation of protein–RNA interactions using crosslinking combined with MS. It is part of the project “Dissecting protein–RNA and protein–DNA interactions in cells through crosslinking/mass-spectrometry analyses” within the “Collaborative Research Centre 1565: Molecular mechanisms and interplay of gene expression processes”. The successful applicant will work on establishing novel methods to monitor concomitantly protein–RNA and protein–DNA contacts in cells, and will have access to various state-of-the-art MS instruments, and will receive full support from other members of the research group. Furthermore, the PhD student will collaborate with other groups of the CRC1565 and with other national and international research groups. PhD students of the Bioanalytical Mass Spectrometry Group are encouraged to attend international workshops and meetings once a year.
