    The institute of Fluid Dynamics is conducting basic and applied research in the fields of thermo-fluid dynamics and magnetohydrodynamics in order to improve the sustainability, the energy efficiency and the safety of industrial processes.

    As part of the Institute, the Department of Experimental Thermal Fluid Dynamics invites applications as PhD Student (f/m/d) Dynamics of fiber-laden drops.

    The position will be available from 1 November 2022. The employment contract is limited to three years. Your tasks:

    We are looking for a candidate (f/m/d) to further develop a numerical model capable of handling the fast dynamics of fiber-laden drops. The tasks of the research project are:

    - Derivation of a numerical method describing of the interaction between fiber and interface deformation - Further development of a hybrid Euler/Lagrangian method for the coupling of structural, flow and contact line dynamics - Direct numerical simulations of the impact of fiber-laden droplets on a solid surface (Scenario 1) - Simulation of the generation of fiber-laden droplets at a channel junction (Scenario 2) - Joint measurement campaign with the project partner for experimental validation

    Your profile:

    - Excellent Master`s degree in Engineering, Mathematics or Computational science - Very good knowledge in numerical fluid mechanics - Experience in the application of optical measurement techniques for the investigation of particle-laden flows is an advantage - Good German and English language skills (verbal and written) - Self-motivation and good communication skills within an international team
