  • Subjects Reactive Transport Description As member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, the HZDR employs about 1,400 people. The Center's focus is on interdisciplinary research in the areas energy, health and matter.

    The Institute of Resource Ecology performs research to protect humans and the environment from hazards caused by pollutants resulting from technical processes that produce energy and raw materials.

    As part of the Institute, the Department of Reactive Transport in Leipzig invites applications as

    PhD Student (f/m/d) Development and application of reactive transport modeling concepts.

    The position will be available as soon as possible. The employment contract is limited to three years. Tasks:

    The focus is set on transport of radionuclides in porous and/or fractured geomaterials.

    - Reactive transport modeling with a focus on radionuclide sorption reactions - Analysis of fluid transport processes in geomaterials using tomography datasets - Implementation of geochemical datasets into the RTM concept in close collaboration with our international project team - Flow parameter analysis including velocity field, effective volume etc. for transport model parametrization as well as spatially-resolved geochemical and mineralogical data - Publication of results in peer-reviewed journals

    Requirements:

    - Master's degree in Earth/ Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Applied Physics or similar background - Desirable skills include basic experience in transport modeling, the analysis of porous materials including visualization and image analysis of tomographic data and data processing (e.g., Python, R, C++) - Teamwork and communication skills are essential - Excellent English communication and writing skills
