PhD Research Fellow in RNA Biology Job description

Position as PhD Research Fellow is available at the Department of Biosciences, University of Oslo.

The fellowship period is 3 years.

A fourth year may be considered with a workload of 25 % that may consist of teaching, supervision duties, and/or research assistance. This is dependent upon the qualification of the applicant and the current needs of the department.

No one can be appointed for more than one PhD Research Fellowship period at the University of Oslo. Starting date is no later than 01.10.2023.

The Ph.D. candidate will be supervised by Prof. Rafal Ciosk, whose group is interested in posttranscriptional gene regulation. The project will address the regulation of translation activation of specific mRNAs by the conserved mTOR signaling pathway, using C. elegans as a model organism. Desired candidates will have experience in molecular and cell biology, or biochemistry. Prior exposure to RNA biology and C. elegans would be advantageous.

Qualification requirements

We seek motivated candidates with the following formal qualifications:

Master's degree or equivalent in Molecular or Cell Biology, Genetics, or Biochemistry or foreign completed degree (M.Sc.-level) corresponding to a minimum of four years in the Norwegian educational system

The successful candidate will have experience in molecular biology, cell biology, or biochemistry

Prior exposure to RNA biology and C. elegans would be advantageous

Fluent oral and written communication skills in English

Grade requirements:

The norm is as follows:

the average grade point for courses included in the Bachelor's degree must be C or better in the Norwegian educational system

the average grade point for courses included in the Master's degree must be B or better in the Norwegian educational system

the Master's thesis must have the grade B or better in the Norwegian educational system

The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.

Department of Biosciences (IBV) is one of nine departments at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
