The USN School of Business has a vacancy for a 100 % temporary position as PhD Research Fellow in Management "Events and stakeholder management” from 01.08.2023.
The position is located at the Department of Business, Strategy and Political Science. The main place of employment is campus Drammen and the immediate superior is the Department Head.
The appointment is for a term of three years research education and training, with no teaching obligations. It is a premise for employment that the PhD Research Fellow is enrolled in USN's PhD-program in Management within three months of accession in the position.
The PhD-candidate will work with researchers at USN School of Business who study event management and the interaction between different stakeholders. Among other topics, the group holds an extensive research portfolio within event, sport and cultural management. The empirical context includes temporary organizations, volunteer management, medias interaction with other stakeholders, motivation and coping with stress.About the PhD-project
Events and stakeholder management
We are looking for a research fellow who is interested in stakeholder management and who would like to be part of a team that wants to develop empirical and theoretical knowledge about various event solutions.
The project will use cultural events (sports events, festivals) as an empirical context where it can be investigated how management and cooperation between different event stakeholders takes place and develops over time, and thus can be seen in relation to sustainable city and business development. The candidate must document an interest and understanding of this empirical context.
The candidate may in his/her proposal, narrow the research focus (depending on research interests) on different stakeholders from the private sector (such as sponsors, business), the public sector (regional authorities, national authorities) and civil society (volunteers, interest organizations, national teams and local clubs).
Just to exemplify what we envision, one focus could be investigate the stakeholders around ‘Hopplandslaget'– both the stakeholders involved in the hosting of major events and also the ones involved in the partnership with Team USA. The vision of the national ski jumping team is to become "the world's most important show jumping nation", and an interested candidate might gain access to this context. The candidate is welcome to suggest and describe other potential event cases in the project description (two or three cases).
Depending on the theoretical framework, the PhD candidate's project may be based on different methodological approaches, i.e., qualitative, quantitative or mixed-methods research (MMR). It is expected that the candidate uses different approaches in his or her research to secure an in-depth understanding of the research context.Qualifications
