Field of Research
Subjects Cell Biology Description A principal objective of the immune system is to find and neutralize invading pathogens as fast as possible. To optimize detection, individual immune cells display distinct search pattern, which emerge in a cell-autonomous manner. The aim of the project is to investigate how curvature-dependent self-organization mediates the formation of such search patter in a 2D and 3D environment. To answer this question, we combine classical cell biological approaches with advanced microscopy, biophysical approaches, image analysis and numerical simulations.
The prospective holder of the position will be working in the research group of Dr. Galic at the Institute of Medical Physics and Biophysics (IMPB). The institute offers a well-equipped, international working environment, where talented and self-motivated students will find excellent opportunities to develop and pursue their personal scientific ideas.
Your profile: You are an enthusiastic, ambitious scientist who is looking for the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary, international team. You have a recent diploma or master's degree in biology, biophysics, or a similar discipline. Experience in basic molecular and cell culture techniques are a prerequisite. Previous experience in biophysics, image analysis and programming are welcome, but not a requirement; a keen interest to learn these techniques is however necessary. Good English and communication skills, as well as an interest in different scientific fields, are needed due to the interdisciplinary nature of the project.
Applications of women are specifically invited. In the case of similar qualifications, competence, and specific achievements, women will be considered on preferential terms within the framework of the legal possibilities. Handicapped candidates with equivalent qualifications will be given preference.
