    PhD Position – Interfacial compatibility of all-solid-state Li battery

    consisting of sulfide electrolyte

    Your Job:

    All-solid-state Li batteries will play an important role in future applications in the automotive industry and for stationary energy storage. Key focuses of research and further development are highly conductive sulfide electrolytes and their compatibility with the metallic anode. In this context, fabricating high-performance materials, properly engineering the interfaces in batteries, and systematic investigations of interfacial properties are especially desired. Within the framework of a relevant project, your tasks will include:

  • Develop novel structured sulfide-based solid electrolytes, apply the materials in various all-solid-state batteries, surface/interface modification for better performance and material compatibility (e.g. PVD, ALD), application oriented up-scaling

  • Upstream analysis of the used materials and components with regard to quality and performance (e.g. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), different types of microscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), etc.)

  • In cooperation with internal collaborators, develop in-operando measurements (NMR, TEM, computed tomography (CT)) for better understanding of the fundamental electrochemistry

  • Use other advanced analysis techniques and complementary analysis in cooperation with external partners (e,g, neutron depth profiling(NDP))

  • Evaluation, documentation and publication of the results via internal reports, manuscripts and presentations

  • Cooperation with and co-supervision of master students

  • Your Profile:

  • Excellent university degree (Master) in materials science, physics, engineering, chemistry or related field

  • Experience and knowledge in polymer science, electrochemistry or solid state ionic

  • Experience with mentioned analysis technologies is desirable

  • Strong interest in a hands-on research environment

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team

  • High motivation, interest in the research questions as well as an independent and result-oriented way of working

  • Fluency in oral and written German and English
