Located in Limoges, the IRCER research laboratory is a mixed unit (UMR 7315) under the dual supervision of the CNRS and the University of Limoges. It is linked to the Institute of Chemistry (INC) and the main activities aim at understanding and controlling the elaboration processings applied to ceramics and surface treatments for the elaboration of objects with the desired usage properties. Vesuvius (www. vesuvius.com) is a global leader application involving engineering and technology for fusion of metal. As this PhD position is part of the Cesaref European doctoral network, the timing is divided in this way: - Months 1 to 9 (9 months): the doctoral student will first be mainly based in Ghlin in Belgium on the Vesuvius company's site; - Month 10 to 27 (18 months): the doctoral student will then be based in Limoges, France, at the IRCER laboratory (Institut de Recherche sur les Céramiques); - Months 28 to 36 (9 months): the doctoral student will finally be again based in Ghlin in Belgium on the Vesuvius company's site. Many mobilities are therefore to be foreseen in accordance with the requirements of this type of European project. The supervising team (Marc Huger, Nicolas Tessier-Doyen, Séverine Romero- Baivier and Johan Richaud) has an expertise in the thermomechanical behaviour of refractory materials for more than 20 years, both from academic and industrial point of view.
Title: Characterization of refractory materials properties after usage for recyclability determination This PhD offer (PhD 05) belongs to the 15 PhD positions of the CESAREF European project (www. cesaref.eu). This scientific & applicative work aims to monitor and characterize the properties of various refractory materials both in industrial & laboratory conditions. Objectives: key thermal and mechanical properties of industrial refractory materials are going to be investigated through various experimental techniques in regards with the evolution of microstructure. This work will provide a deep analysis of specific property variations after use in comparison with initial properties in order to qualify the recyclability after several thermal cycles. Expected results: quantify materials properties at high temperature (thermal conductivity, thermal expansion, Young's modulus, stress-strain law of behaviour, fracture energy,...) after use in regards with initial state. These expected properties variations will be implemented in FEM models to predict the potential recyclability. Non-destructives testing will be considered as a priority. Skills/Candidate profile: Master's level related to Materials Science and/or Materials Engineering. Candidates should have excellent skills for experimental characterization technics and in materials science, preferably in the domain of refractories and/or ceramics. A specific skill in thermomechanics would be appreciated. Oral and written communication skills (english) are mandatory. Please use only the official recruitment procedure to apply for this offer (PhD 05) through the following link https: // www. cesaref.eu/recruitment- procedure/.
