  • The computer science laboratory of the University of Pau and Adour Countries (LIUPPA : Laboratoire Informatique de l'Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour), offers a funded 3-year PhD position designed for outstanding and motivated candidates, starting November 2022.

    The PhD is part of the ANR Behave project and tackles the power consumption of software through behavioral changes of end users. The PhD involves software engineering, behavioral studies, and field experiments.

    The PhD aims to tackle two main objectives: 1) advancing the understanding of human behaviors in regards to reducing the energy impact of software systems, and 2) providing tools and technical approaches to support end users in achieving energy reductions in their software usage.

    The PhD's objectives aim to answer the following research questions: RQ1: Can raising user awareness in green software, through green feedback, drive behavioral changes in software energy consumption? and RQ2: Can an automated and artificially intelligent green feedback loop drive long-term behavioral change for users?

    The PhD will involve measuring energy consumption of software, analyzing software traces, experimental field studies (including ones with human subjects), and building AI and autonomous approaches and systems.

    Offer Requirements
  • Computer science: Master Degree or equivalent


    We are looking for outstanding and motivated candidates for this 3-year position.

    The candidates must hold (or about to receive) a Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or related areas.

    The candidate must have good English skills.

    Knowledge of French is not required but recommended as the thesis will take place in a French university.
