The function of brain oxytocin in primates' natural social interaction behavior.

The neuropeptide oxytocin (OT) has been shown to play an important role in modulating social information and behavior in many animal species. However, little is understood about the brain mechanisms of OT in primates. This PhD project will focus on the structures in the social brain of the macaque monkey that are targeted by the neuromodulator oxytocin and are involved in the perception and production of social behaviors and relationships. Several state-of-the-art methods will be used, including a naturalistic experimental setup for freely behaving animals, a novel behavioral classification based on deep learning, pharmacogenetic manipulations, and wireless physiological recordings. Therefore, candidates for this PhD position should have a strong interest and expertise in non-human primate research and behavioral neurophysiology.
