2 - Position description

The Faculty of Engineering , Department Elektrotechniek en energietechniek , is looking for a PhD-student with a doctoral grant.

More concretely your work package, for the preparation of a doctorate , contains:

The department ETEC - "Electrical and Energy Engineering" is looking for a teaching and research assistant (PhD grantee). ETEC belongs to the Faculty of Engineering Sciences and is part of the research group MOBI - Electromobility Research Centre. MOBI is an interdisciplinary team, with over 120 specialists and expertise ranging from electric and autonomous driving, to innovative batteries, intelligent drive systems and energy management, power electronics and charging infrastructure. In addition, we develop knowledge regarding business planning and consumer behavior, and we study the integration of electric vehicles into energy communities and smart grids.

You will conduct research and teaching in the field of Electrical and Energy Engineering.

1. Research: You participate in the research that is carried out within our ETEC department. a. You specialize in some of the following areas: electric vehicles, power electronics, energy management systems, powertrains, charging infrastructure, energy storage and integration of electric vehicles into the power grid. b. You work out projects independently. c. You are working towards a PhD. d. You will present your work at international conferences and publish your work in good scientific journals.

2. Education: To a limited extent, the assignment also includes coordinating and supervising exercises, practical classes and projects (WPO) in course units within the Bachelor of Engineering and the Master of Engineering in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. The concrete assignment is determined annually in consultation with the candidate. For part of this WPO, Dutch is the working language and for another part English. The candidate will be deployed in actions to promote the programs offered by the department (e.g. presence at information days or supervision of spring or fall camps) and will possibly contribute to the daily management of the department by participating in councils and/or committees.

3. Outreach: you contribute to the activities of the university that aim to recruit students or give you the opportunity to present your research to a wide audience.

The effective working out of the doctoral fellowship is subject to the suspensive condition of enrolling as a doctoral student at the university.

For this function, our Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus (Elsene) will serve as your home base.

3 - Profile

What do we expect from you?

You have a Master's degree in Engineering or Industrial Sciences preferably with specialization in Electromechanics and/or vehicle technology.

  • You are fluent in Dutch and English.

  • You have not performed any works in the execution of a mandate as an assistant, paid from operating resources, over a total (cumulated) period of more than 12 months.

    Are you going to be our new colleague?

    You'll be offered a full-time PhD-scholarship , for 12 months (extendable up to max. 48 months, on condition of the positive evaluation of the PhD activities), with planned starting date 01/11/2023.

    You'll receive a grant linked to one of the scales set by the government.

    IMPORTANT: The effective result of the doctorate scholarship is subject to the condition precedent of your enrolment as a doctorate student at the university.
