  • At the Institute for Energy and Climate Research - Photovoltaics (IEK-5) we do research in the field of solar cells along the value chain, from material and technology development to energy yield prediction of complete photovoltaic systems. On the systel level our key focuces in research is on data modelling and analysis. As a member of our team, you can contribute in this research field.

    The position is part of a third-party funded projekct to investigate defects in industrial c-Si PV modules. During the project a series of so-called Daylight electroluminescence (EL) images are collected that provide an insight into module health. At the same time, a series of sensory collect key electrical performance data on individual modules.The data is collected in several parks throughout Europe.

    PhD Position - Deep learning models in Photovoltaic

    Your Job:

  • Implementation of various deep learning methods for image analysis. We working in the direction of selb-supervised learning models (simCLR, BYOL,SimSiam)

  • Implementation of these models and batch analysis of thousands of images

  • Presentation of the results at national and international conferences

  • Publication of the work in professional journals

  • Your Profile:

  • University degree (Master) in either physics, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, or related fields

  • Extensive programming experience os required, preferably also with Python

  • Experience in Machine learning

  • Being comfortable with a linux system

  • Excellent knowledge of written and oral English

  • Intrinsic motivation, initiative, and an ability to work independently

  • The position is initially for a fixed term of 3 years, with possible long-term prospects. Pay in line with up to 65 % of pay group 13 of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD-Bund) and additionally 60 % of a monthly salary as special payment („Christmas bonus“).
