    The BEEP project provides research and training opportunities for early-stage researchers in the field of bio-mimetic approaches for light management. Scientifically, BEEP aims to i) unravel the fundamental strategies of light management in macroalgae, corals with symbiotic microalgae and bacteria, as well as sea-slugs with sequestered chloroplasts, and ii) to apply such knowledge for creating novel artificial and bionic photosynthetic systems. The network unites 9 beneficiaries and 8 partner organisations from both the academic and industrial sectors from 6 countries (United Kingdom, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Denmark, USA).     Research within the network encompasses a number of disciplines ranging from organic, inorganic, physical chemistry to the material and biological sciences. In addition, inter-sectorial collaboration is promoted through short- and long-term secondments between academic and non-academic participants. The aim of the research programme is to provide the ESRs with the practical skills and knowledge so that they can perform top-level research, both in the academic and non-academic sectors. The network-wide training programme consists of workshops and schools. It has been specifically designed to equip the researchers with a balance of research-related and transferable skills, which will enhance their career perspectives.

    At the University of Milano, Italy, the PI, Prof. Luisa DE COLA, is involved in a project dealing with hydrogels for bacterial growth and organization.

    Selection process

    Applications must be sent to Prof. Luisa De Cola (luisa.decola@unimi.it) via email and must contain a letter of motivation, the masters' degree with all the exams and grades, the CV of the candidate that must include day and place of birth and nationality.

    The deadline for the application is July 5st 2021 at 12:00 Paris time.

    The selected candidates will be invited for the interview and will be notified on July 7th.

    The PhD position will start on September 1st 2021 and it is for 3 years. The interviews for the selection of the fellow are settled in the week July 12-16 2021, are in English and consist of 15 minutes presentation and 15 minutes questions.

    Skills/Qualifications

    The applicant must be fluent in English, must hold a Master in Chemistry or Material Science and must have some knowledge on hydrogels, rheology and organic synthesis. Also candidates with a background in bio-engineer will be considered.
