Description

  • Organisation/Company: CNRS
  • Research Field: Chemistry Physics Technology
  • Researcher Profile: First Stage Researcher (R1)
  • Application Deadline: 09/08/2021 23:59 - Europe/Brussels
  • Location: France › PESSAC
  • Type Of Contract: Temporary
  • Job Status: Full-time
  • Hours Per Week: 35
  • Offer Starting Date: 01/11/2021
  • The Laboratory of Chemistry of Organic Polymers (LCPO) is a joint research unit affiliated to the CNRS, the University of Bordeaux and the Institut Polytechnique de Bordeaux (https:// www. lcpo.fr). The LCPO is organized into 4 research teams with a total strength of nearly 150 people, including about 50 permanent staff.

With over 30 years of expertise in polymer chemistry, researches at LCPO aim at: - developing innovative methodologies for precision synthesis of polymers, using in particular biomimetic and/or green chemistry pathways - designing functional polymer materials by macromolecular engineering and self-assembly, in the fields of renewable materials, health and energy - establishing strong links with the socio-economy world.

The work of the recruited agent will be carried out in team 2 of the LCPO

Team 2, entitled "Biopolymers and Bio-sourced Polymers", is headed by Henri Cramail. The team explores green routes to valorize the bio-resources for the design of sustainable polymer materials, with the following main orientations : - the depolymerization of ligno-cellulosic biomass and the valorization of the products so-formed (oligo-lignin, phenols, saccharinic acids, oligosaccharides) - the synthesis of bio-based monomers, mainly from lipids, and the investigation of their polymerization (polyesters, non isocyanate polyurethanes, polyamides, epoxy networks) - the chemical modification of polysaccharides, essentially cellulose and chitosane, for the design of functional polymer materials.

Processing thermoplastics with additives produces many chemical reactions and creates many toxic Non-Intentionally Added Substance (NIAS). Objectives: to process three major polymers and their most common additives to understand how NIAS are formed, see if their occurrence can be decreased by modifying processing and evaluate the toxicity. To understand how and why NIAS are forming, polymers and additives will be compounded and processed in well- defined and controlled conditions. At each step, NIAS will be extracted, identified, toxicology estimated, and their formation related to the thermo- mechanical history experienced during processing, using a numerical simulation of the processes. We will demonstrate how NIAS are forming, even in very classical and simple conditions, with only a few additives used, demonstrate that by modifying processing condition, NIAS amount and danger can be decreased without modifying final properties and assess the safety of recycling.
