  • Work in the team Physiology of neural networks, a team of 10 people at the Institute for cellular and integrative neuroscience (INCI) in collaboration with other PhD and researchers as well as with the Chronobiotron (an animal care center associated to INCI). The PhD will be under the supervision of the team leader and other researcher form the team.

    The cerebellum plays a major role in sensory motor adaptation, learning of skilled movements but also a wealth of non-motor tasks such as working memory, language or spatial navigation: all these functions can be mapped to specific subregions of the cerebellum forming a topographic map and functional modules. At the anatomical and the cellular levels, the cerebellar cortex was originally thought of as a uniform structure composed of a limited number of neuronal types. However, many studies have demonstrated that individual subregions have anatomical regional differences and diverse functional properties leading to a large diversity of information processing in individual modules. Using a combination of techniques, from molecular biology to electrophysiology and optogenetic, we will determine in brain slices whether and how the molecular heterogeneity of granule cells, the major type of cells of the cerebellar cortex, underlies functional heterogeneity in the cerebellar cortex. We will develop a strategy to study specific subgroups of granule cells during development and in adult rodents.

    Additional comments

    The project is part of the ANR GraCeFORCe:Granule cell heterogeneity and functional organization of cerebellar microcircuits. The candidate should have a master in neuroscience, an experience in electrophysiology and neuroanatomical tracing. He/She should have good communication skills and appreciate working in a team.
