About the position
We have a vacancy for one PhD Candidate position in Marine Bioacoustics at the
Marine Section of the Department of Biology in the group of Prof. Ana Širović.
For a position as a PhD Candidate, the goal is a completed doctoral education
up to an obtained doctoral degree.
The research in the group is focused on the development and use of acoustic
methods to study marine animals and their ecology. Specifically, the PhD
candidate will primarily be responsible for analysis of long-term passive
acoustic data from South Adriatic, answering questions relating to cetacean
signal classification and identification, overall cetacean presence, and
ambient noise interactions, through development and application of machine
learning approaches. Field work as well as analysis of previously collected
data will be expected as part of the project. The position will also have
partial teaching duties. This position will contribute to the expansion of a
newly-established research group at NTNU and the candidate will be expected to
be a productive contributor to the process.

Duties of the position
Develop methods for the analysis of long-term passive acoustic data from
the Adriatic Sea to answer questions relating to cetacean signal
classification and identification, overall cetacean presence, and ambient

Salary and conditions
PhD candidates are remunerated in code 1017, and are normally remunerated at
gross from NOK 491 200 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and
seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian
Public Service Pension Fund.
The period of employment is 4 years (with teaching duties).
