About the positionWe have a vacancy for a PhD candidate at The Department of Clinical and Molecular Medicine (IKOM).
The position is one of three PhD positions within the project Personalized treatment of small-cell lung cancer, which is an interdisciplinary project involving oncology, bioinformatics, and materials science. The overall aim of this project is to develop an affordable, cost-effective, and easily implemented diagnostic classification system for small-cell lung cancer (SCLC). This will enable us, among other things, to assess the extent of disease, predict treatment response and disease development including risk of brain metastases, and estimate time to relapse and survival time.
The PhD candidate will focus on in vitro analyses of biological samples from SCLC patients, including genomic analyses (single cell transcriptomics, tumor DNA sequencing) and analyses of treatment responses in 3D alveoli tissue models. The position is available at the lung cancer research group at IKOM, where you will report to Professor Bjørn Henning Grønberg.
Duties of the positionOne of the PhD candidate's main responsibilities will be tissue culture experiments on patient-derived cells, but the position will also involve the following tasks:
The qualification requirement is that you have completed a master's degree or second degree (equivalent to 120 credits) with a strong academic background in molecular or cell biology, molecular medicine, biotechnology or equivalent education with a grade of B or better in terms of NTNU's grading scale. If you do not have letter grades from previous studies, you must have an equally good academic foundation. If you are unable to meet these criteria you may be considered only if you can document that you are particularly suitable for education leading to a PhD degree.
Master's students are encouraged to apply, but the master's degree must be obtained and documented before August 1, 2023

We offerAs a PhD candidate (code 1017) you are normally paid from gross NOK 501 200 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
The period of employment is 3 years.
Appointment to a PhD position requires that you are admitted to the PhD programme in Medicine and Health Sciences within three months of employment, and that you participate in an organized PhD programme during the employment period.
The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution daily.
