Offer Description

Iron is an essential microelement for the metabolism for most of the living organisms. Understanding how iron homeostasis is regulated at the molecular level is a prerequisite for improving (i) human nutrition (around 500 million people worldwide suffer from iron-deficiency anaemia) and (ii) plant productivity and the quality of their by-products. The identification and characterisation of the transcription factors ILR3 and bHLH121 by the host team (FeROS, IPSiM, Montpellier) is a major step forward in our understanding of the molecular mechanisms that control iron homeostasis in plants. The aim of this thesis project is to extend our knowledge in this field using functional biology approaches available at IPSiM and CIBIO (PlantBIO, Porto, Portugal).

Main mission: Molecular genetics

Activities: Large scale gene expression analysis, plant phenotyping, molecular biology, genetics, confocal imaging, bioinformatics, gene functional characterization
