Position Description
This position is responsible for assuring smooth operation of the clinic
patient flow. Employees serve as primary contacts for patients and are
responsible for scheduling appointments, preparing necessary paperwork before
the patient visits, receiving patients, and maintaining records. In addition,
this position is responsible for processing charges for clinic services,
filing insurance claims, responding to requests for information from patients
and insurance companies and maintaining related information for the
department. Employees may have cash handling responsibilities.

Major/Essential Functions
Prepares authorization paper work required by insurance companies from
Primary Care. Providers to Specialists patients established in our primary
care practice Types all patient information at100% accuracy and provide
all required forms to specialist offices, hospitals and imagining centers.
Responsible for responding courteously and efficiently to all incoming
calls from Specialists offices or imaging centers inquiring about
authorization forms or scheduled appointments from our
Primary Care physicians. Answers all phone calls within three rings.
Schedules all patients with sub specialists who our primary care
physicians have referred to and respond to all queries from insurance
companies, specialists offices and imaging centers
Educates patients (outpatient and inpatient when relevant) and providers
about referral and prior authorization processes. Serves as liaison with
payers to resolve coverage issues. Research payer policies and coverage
determinations proactively. Responsible for maintain patient abreast of
their insurance coverage information. Ensures patients are knowledgeable
of their insurance coverage. Maintains a tracking system with updated
patient insurance information for future patient
referrals accurately, thoroughly and within the timeframe allotted
Responsible for Processing and arriving patients into the appropriate
outpatient clinic. Performs clerical tasks in an efficient and effective
manner to reduce patient's waiting time. Collects proper identification,
insurance information and collects consent to treat forms. Verifies
patient's health insurance and personal data and enters all data into the
Cbiz at 100% accuracy level Responsible for collecting payments from
patients Collects the proper amount of money due from patient during each
visit. Follows insurance policy guidelines and departmental and
institutional guidelines at 100% accuracy
Upon request, coordinates information pertaining to prescriptions,
refills, lab reports, etc. with physician and patients. Coordinates all
necessary information in an accurate and timely manner and communicates
effectively with all parties involved. Assists patient with applications
and insurance forms as indicated Understands current application format
and most currently utilized forms to accomplish task at 100% accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications
At least three years of general office experience
At least one year of general office experience in a clinic or physician's
office OR At least 90 days service at TTUHSC as a Patient Services
Trainee, documented completion of all relevant IDX training and a recent
performance appraisal on file with a rating of meeting or exceeding
expectations
Bilingual English/Spanish
Must have computer skills to maneuver through the system
