Department School of Criminal Justice Salary Salary per Credit Posting Summary

The School of Criminal Justice, Rutgers University invites applications for Part-Time Lecturer (PTL) teaching positions in the undergraduate and MA program during the Spring 2022 Semester.

Successful applicants will develop and instruct undergraduate courses on a wide variety of topics including, but not limited to the following: criminal justice systems; justice studies; research methods; local crime; gender, crime, and justice; white collar crime, youth violence; crime and the life course; crime in different cultures; constitutional and issues.

Instructors shall report to the Dean of the School of Criminal Justice, attend an orientation, prepare and submit course syllabi, meet and provide pedagogically appropriate instruction during assigned class times, provide timely student feedback, respond to student emails, and adhere to grade submission policies and deadlines. In classes that have a research focus, instructors shall follow appropriate Institutional Review Board policies and procedures to ensure the protection of human subjects.

Course appointments are on the Rutgers Newark campus or at the Rutgers off- campus site located at County College of Morris and will generally involve face-to-face instruction.

Minimum Education and Experience

Masters or Juris Doctorate Required. Doctorate Preferred.

Demonstrated ability to teach at the university level.

Applicants with comparable degrees from accredited institutions may also be considered. Prior teaching experience is also preferred.

The School of Criminal Justice at Rutgers University-Newark was founded in 1974 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature—the only school in America with this kind of legal charter. Its purposes have always been to (1) produce scholarship of the highest quality on crime and justice (2) provide state and local justice agencies with crucial evidence and consultation about the policy and practice of criminal justice, and (3) produce graduates who take their places as productive and respected scholars in the field.
