Description

As our days become hotter, storms become more severe, and sea level rise creeps into our neighborhoods, communities will need to dramatically rethink their relationships to water. Much like the COVID-19 pandemic, disasters reveal time and again how vulnerable and inequitable our systems are when stressed. This will necessitate billions of dollars to create infrastructure that adapts our communities to the impending climate risk. Rebuild by Design is working towards the development of Resilient Infrastructure Funding at the state and national levels that will raise billions of dollars to address climate adaptation challenges and put communities at the forefront of decision-making processes. The research, analysis, and policy proposals supported by this funding will address intra-state hazard mitigation needs, and help communities rebuild from the COVID-19 pandemic by outlining pathways for job creation, industry growth, and economic development through resilience measures.

Rebuild seeks funding to conduct state-specific research to demonstrate that 1) communities are already suffering from climate impacts, 2) the US is already spending billions of taxpayer dollars in those same communities in the wake of disasters, and 3) there are financial mechanisms such as a Bond Act or small insurance surcharge, which can be implemented on the State level that could be used to support the necessary infrastructure upgrades.

Rebuild is looking for a part-time researcher for eight months. Hours will fluctuate from 3-12 hours per week and the researcher will be paid by the hour worked. Research can be completed out of the office, and on your own time. There may be regular meetings to attend with the rest of the team during work hours.

We are looking for a self-starter with a flexible schedule who has experience working with FEMA, HUD, and/or State data, and an interest in working on a research project that will span numerous states. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets are required, experience in InDesign is a plus.
