    Job Description

    The Department of World Languages and Literatures at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for part-time instructors to teach modern Chinese Mandarin courses at various levels as assigned. This job posting is to update our list of qualified part-time instructors and will be drawn upon for the Fall 2021 semester and beyond, as needed. Qualified candidates will be tasked with teaching courses either during the day or evening on the main campus in Reno. This position is based upon a semester long contract and is not eligible for benefits. Applications will only be accepted through our main jobs page.

    The successful applicant will:

  • Work under the direction of the Chinese section leader.

  • Teach assigned classes in accordance with the University's and College of Liberal Arts' academic calendar and approved syllabi.

  • Meet during all scheduled class sessions.

  • Maintain and report accurate student grade and attendance records using approved procedures and systems.

  • Utilize the appropriate technology, including UNR's learning platform Canvas, to fulfill teaching duties.

  • Required Qualifications:

    -Native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and English.

    -A Master's degree in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, linguistics, Second Language Acquisition or related field.

    -Previous teaching experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    -Experience with technology-based instruction

    -Demonstrated excellence, or clear evidence of potential for excellence, in teaching Mandarin Chinese

    -Evidence of, or potential for, effective interaction with a diverse range of students and colleagues.

    Compensation Grade

    Pay for this position is $1000 per credit hour per semester, with no benefits.
