Job Description:

Berklee invites applications for a Part Time faculty member in the Music Education Department. The Department offers an innovative Music Education curriculum including an undergraduate music teacher licensure program, undergraduate minors in Musical Instrument Repair and Teaching Artistry, and three innovative graduate programs, two of which focus on music education for students with autism and other disabilities. Berklee's Music Education offerings are designed to empower students to create their future in music education by learning cutting-edge pedagogical practices, exploring new technologies and contemporary perspectives, and teaching while they learn.

Reporting to and under the supervision of the Chair of Music Education, the ideal candidate will have content expertise in contemporary issues in music education, such as culturally sustaining pedagogy, musical traditions outside of the Western canon, the neuroscience of music and learning, and/or music education technology. The ideal candidate will be highly skilled in pedagogical practices that engage students and make education relevant in a wide range of settings, including seminars and classes, supervising independent student projects and Master's theses, and student advising sessions. They will be a student centered, collaborative educator-scholar- leader-artist who is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of music educators.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctoral degree in Music Education

  • Experience teaching at the university level

  • Record of creative scholarship/professional activity

  • Demonstration of collaboration and participation in professional organizations

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Command of technology to support professional work and advance teaching and learning

  • Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach courses in Music Education, as assigned

  • Supervise graduate student independent projects, including Master's theses and Culminating Experiences

  • Prepare syllabi for all assigned courses

  • Attend Department meetings and contribute to the faculty community of Music Education, the Professional Education Division, and Berklee

  • Engage in professional development to maintain and continually advance teaching skills

  • Engage in service to the profession

  • Attend College-wide events (e.g., Opening Day) and follow all other guidelines per the Faculty Contract Agreement

  • START DATE

    The start date for the position is January 2022.
