The School of Art, Media, and Technology at Parsons School of Design, The New
School is seeking part-time faculty to teach in the MFA Design + Technology
Program. Current opportunities include teaching Thesis Studio 1, Thesis Studio
2, Design for this Century Recitation, Motion Graphics: Introduction, Creative
Computation: Unity, Creative Computation: Python, and Designing for Usability.
Program description, application requirements as well as minimum and preferred
The MFA in Design and Technology (MFADT) prepares students to develop their
own questions, and the iterative methodologies to critically research,
conceptualize, prototype, evaluate, and ultimately author their own creative
practice. The program draws on a wide range of fields and disciplines
including interaction design, fashion, physical computing, critical design,
game design, fine arts, creative technology, storytelling, product design,
activism, education, to name a few. MFADT provides the opportunity for
students to develop a responsive creative process that takes into
consideration the ever-changing world in which they will work. The program is
over 20 years old with an extensive alumni network in a variety of creative
fields and industries.
Part-time faculty compensation and benefits are governed by the collective
bargaining agreement between The New School and ACTUAW Local 7902.
Part-time faculty are responsible for: attending all classes they are assigned
to teach as scheduled by the University; reporting any emergency faculty
absences to the PTF Manager and/or Program Leadership; recording student
attendance in a timely manner within two days of each class session; and
adhering to all University policies (ie., FERPA, exclusive use of New School
email, etc.), as outlined in the ACT-UAW Local 7902 Collective Bargaining
Significant professional experience and/or a Master's degree from an
accredited institution in an aligned academic discipline.
Minimum one year of teaching experience, preferably within a critique-
based course or degree curriculum.
Commitment to inclusive and equity-driven teaching practices.
U.S. Work Authorization (i.e., U.S. Passport or EAD card).
