Program Overview: The Mathematics department is one of the five departments in the Pure and Applied Science Division at Highline College. Serving most Highline students, we offer courses from Pre-Algebra to Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and Statistics. Our courses support professional technical programs, transfer degree programs, and four-year degrees that Highline currently offers. Math faculty participate in professional development at both local and national levels, and are continuously involved in curriculum improvement for student success. The Highline College Mathematics Department works as a team to empower our diverse student community to achieve their educational goals through innovative instruction, curriculum, placement, and support. Position Overview: Faculty in this position will teach courses from the following pool: beginning and intermediate algebra, statistics, math for elementary teachers, college algebra and quantitative reasoning. Our courses require using online course management technology, and use of graphing calculators. Course assignments will vary each quarter depending on enrollment. Our schedule includes day/evening/weekend, on-line, hybrid, and off-campus sections.
Salary will depend upon the number of classes taught.

Essential Tasks
RESPONSIBILITIES OF PART-TIME FACULTY:
Provide instruction to students and maintain high standards regarding course content;
Promote effective learning and engage students actively in their own learning;
Ensure that course content is consistent with department guidelines;
Be available to meet with staff or students without an appointment for approximately two hours per week;
Provide students with timely feedback on their coursework and examinations;
Maintain communication with the department coordinator and the assigned faculty mentor to discuss curriculum and student progress
Accommodate students with disabilities including providing accessible teaching materials;
Direct students to appropriate campus resources as needed;
Pursue appropriate professional development activities in order to stay current in the field;
Maintain a standard of honest and ethical behavior regarding professional duties;
Comply with applicable state and federal laws, and programmatic/OSPI reporting regulations
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS in Mathematics, Secondary Mathematics Education, or in a related field with significant Math coursework;
Masters in Science, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Education or related fields;
Teaching experience in mathematics;
Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English with students and colleagues of varied ethnicities, ages, backgrounds, and abilities, with a commitment to a culturally diverse environment;
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters in Math or in a related field with significant graduate Math coursework;
Community College teaching experience in Mathematics;
Experience in curriculum development, current teaching, and assessment practices;
Experience with innovative strategies that increases: student learning, engagement, and completion of degree-required math classes in a timely manner;
Demonstrated interest in working with student cohorts in programs such as TRiO, MESA, UMOJA, PUENTE, AANAPISI, etc. at the pre-college and college levels.
Proficient in a language(s) in addition to English.
Supplemental Information
Applicants considered for this position will be required to disclose if they are the subject of any substantiated findings or current investigations related to sexual misconduct at their current employment and past employment. Disclosure is required under Washington state law.
Highline College does require COVID-19 vaccinations for all students, staff and faculty –– with waivers for specific exemptions –– for those who physically attend courses, operations, or other in-person activities. This decision was made in accordance with higher education proclamation 20-12.4. A candidate will not be asked to report their vaccination status unless they are hired by the College. If a candidate chosen for hiring is not fully vaccinated from COVID-19 and plans to submit a medical or religious exemption to this employment condition, the hiring process will be suspended until a decision has been made regarding any exemption application which is submitted. A candidate will not be allowed to do any work for Highline College or be onboarded as a new employee during the time period when the exemption is being considered. The request for an exemption does not guarantee approval.

ORCA Cards-Commute Trip Reduction Program
Through the Commute Trip Reduction Program Highline College employees are eligible for a 50% reimbursement of their monthly ORCA card expenses.
The ORCA card is a plastic smart card containing a microprocessor. ORCA cards come equipped with an "e-purse" function that allows a rider to preload fare value onto the card, or customers can purchase a pass product - such as the monthly PugetPass - and load it onto their ORCA card.
